As an expert witness representing the jewelry industry, you cannot find a more experienced or reputable jeweler than Cos Altobelli.

Mr. Altobelli continues to be extremely active in litigation and appraisal work for the public at large, the jewelry industry, banking institutions, government agencies and insurance companies. He travels the world as an expert witness. Besides jewelry establishments and the jewelers themselves, Mr. Altobelli’s clients even include the IRS (dealing with investigations of over inflated-appraisals used for donations throughout the 1980’s).

He has appraised many of the gemstones and mineral specimens at the Smithsonian and the LA County Museum Gem and Mineral Hall. In fact, Mr. Altobelli was chosen to appraise the collection of the Gemological Institute of America and by the Kuwaiti Government to do the appraisal for the victims of the Iraqi invasion for jewelry losses.
Jewelry has taken him far and wide and he has been a sought after teacher of appraisal procedures and techniques for decades.

For years, Cos has been an expert appraiser of gemstones and jewelry. He developed a formal appraisal education program in 1983 which is now recognized throughout the world. Cos Altobelli was the FIRST person to receive the Certified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA) title by the American Gem Society (AGS) and has to date, certified more than 700 appraisers in the United States and Canada. He also received the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) designation. Additionally, Mr. Altobelli has the title of Graduate Gemologist.
